Peck Gulch approach re-routed, rusty bolts replaced on lower north tier

Volunteers dig in nearly a mile of trail and replace half a dozen top anchor setups.

Coalition board members and a handful of volunteers met at the Peck Gulch day use area to completely reroute the trail to Peck Gulch crags. With picks, loppers, saws and rogue hoes, they clipped, scraped and dug in an easy-going route to the scree field below the cliffs. From there, volunteers smashed and stacked rocks into paths and steps to access the lower north tier.

Meanwhile, a small contingent of bolters headed up top to replace the rusty, antiquated hardware at the tops of the lower north tier crag. What were previously janky hangers are now shiny, stainless steel bolts with hangers and quicklinks.

Overall it was a very solid day and has completely changed the way climbers can access the Peck Gulch cliffs. There’s ample parking at the day use area and when the day is done, it’s easy to take a swim at the beach. A big thanks to everyone who showed up and helped out at this one!

The next trail day is scheduled for August 8th, where volunteers will improve access to Kooc Crags on the west side of the reservoir. Please check out the projects page for more info!
