After receiving a $2,000 grant from the Access Fund, our re-bolting committee set to work replacing some of Stone Hill’s funky top anchors from the mid 1980s. Led by board member Joel Handley, the Coalition managed to replace 15 anchors at Stone Hill this summer. While our original aim was to re-bolt the entirety of Hold Up Bluffs, a motivated group of Canadians from the Bow Valley beat us to it. They’ve put fresh bolts and chains on quite a few roadside climbs and down at Mussel Beach. Nice work eh!
Joel did his best to remove the existing bolts, but a few remain fast in the rock. Cleaning these up will take some serious ingenuity and determination in the future. We still have five anchor kits on standby for next season, as well as a decent pile of bolts/hangers to install. Where are these going to go, you ask? Take this survey and let us know! We plan to come out with more community surveys to ensure we’re appeasing our beloved climbing community.
In the meantime, enjoy clipping the chains on some of the best routes at Stone Hill!
